Description
The world of Aloha is not named for it's climate, for it is a cold tundra world, but for the people.
The world proper is a decivilized iceball circling a red dwarf with habitable bands towards the equator. Total population is maybe a billion, at a level of technological achievement equal to the early 1700's. The world has no significant resource clusters and would normally not interact with the interstellar economy. What they do have, however, is a long tradition of peaceful trade, and an early understanding of service economies.
Landing in the Starport, one might be forgiven in thinking that they've landed in a theme park. Everything is lit by brilliant Arc Lamps or early lightbulbs, there are food stands and buskers, with bonfires lit and crackling in the gentle snowfall of winter. A crew that disembarks can find anything they want, service-wise, and the merchants are always happy to take your credits.
Passing the Starport, and the brilliant glare of the lights and firedancers, out into the darkness past the great hospitality lodges reveals a different scene. Grueling industry and intensive farming fuel this great effort, with governmental incentives and mandatory buy-backs of offworld currency. This isn't done with oppression in mind, as already the first fruits of interstellar-level tech have begun to modernize the world, fuelling the slow climb up from T-3.
Or as the earliest starfarers said before a mission, "Counting down to launch- T-3, T-2, T-1, and we have liftoff!".
